Explore The Cotswolds This Summer

The summer is undoubtedly one of the best times to visit the beautiful region of the Cotswolds

. With its beautiful honey-coloured limestone villages and stunning countryside, its easy to see why this area is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the UK. There are a number of attractions to keep you occupied, plus the beautiful historic towns offer a great day out for all the family.

Additionally, if the countryside is something you wish to explore more you wont be disappointed. The Cotswolds offers an abundance of countryside activities including horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, cycling and of course there are many walking routes.

Cotswolds Towns

Stow-on-the-Wold

Stow-on-the-Wold is a small town situated near the North East corner of Gloucestershire, yet it is the highest settlement in the Cotswolds Hills. Situated near the Roman Fosse Way, this town has existed since the Iron Age. Just like many of the towns in the Cotswolds, the buildings in Stow-on-the-Wold are built with the honey-coloured limestone which reflects the true Cotswold towns. Fairs have been held by royal charter since 1330 and an annual horse fair is still held to this day on the edge of the town. There are many specialist stores, antique shops, galleries and book shops to discover in the town.

Malmesbury

Malmesbury is reputed to be the oldest borough in England and its hilltop presence means that it is described as the Queen of the hilltop towns. The town is surrounded by two forks of the River Avon and sweeping steep slopes which together act as a natural defence. The great stone walls which were once used to fortify for the town can still be seen to this day, along with the weavers cottages which are dotted along the High Street, as like most Cotswolds towns, Malmesbury was a wealthy wool town. Today the town is still bustling and vibrant presenting a good selection of small, independent shops where the major chain stores are very rare among the town.

Cotswolds Accommodation

The Cotswolds has a vast range of accommodation to choose from. The summer is the best time to try a spot of camping in the heart of the countryside. Alternatively for something more relaxing there are many beautiful, characteristic hotels in the Cotswolds to check into, just a couple include The Old Bell in Malmesbury and The Grapevine in Stow-on-the-Wold.

Cotswolds Activities

Walking:

This unique countryside is a walkers paradise whether you decide to follow a published walking route, with your own map or with a guided walking leader. The Cotswolds Way is a long distance walking trail that runs between the market town of Chipping Campden in the North of the Cotswolds and the city of Bath in the South. This walk offers the perfect chance see some true English countryside, passing through picturesque towns, villages, historic sites, churches and lakes.

Golf:Explore The Cotswolds This Summer


There are a number of golf courses to choose from in and around the Cotswolds region, from 18 hole courses to the more shorter courses golf courses include Cleeve Hill Golf Club and Lilleybrook Golf Club, among many more.

Fishing:

Fishing or angling is one of the most popular pastimes in the Cotswolds and with a number of lakes, rivers and canals in the area it is not difficult to see why.
