Essential Gear To Have When Going On A Camping Trip

Essential Gear To Have When Going On A Camping Trip

The proper camping supplies will vary depending upon the length of your trip and the climate

. We've included some tips to help you pick the right gear.

"Sleeping Bag: You'll probably want a sleeping bag no matter what shelter you'll be using (hammock, tent, or cabin). Pick one that's right for the climate. Bags are rated based on the coldest temperature you expect to experience. Pick something that will keep you warm, but pay attention to the weight.

"Tent: Your tent is essential. Set it up before you hit the trail so that you know how to work it and you know that it works. Make sure your tent is waterproof and light. This might be your heaviest item, so shelling out a few extra dollars can go a long way.

"A Tarp: A good light tarp or rain fly is nearly indispensable. You might wind up putting it over your hammock or under your tent. You never know what you might need to keep dry!Essential Gear To Have When Going On A Camping Trip

"Shoes: Take a good long walk in a new pair of hiking boots or hiking shoes before you set out on a camping trip. You don't want to find out once you're in the woods that your shoes give you blisters.

"Rain Gear: Make sure you have some rain gear. A rain jacket and pants will pack down to almost nothing but will reward you infinitely. There's nothing worse than being wet without being able to get dry.

"Cooking Supplies: Nothing beats a warm meal out in the elements. There are many ways to cook when you're camping. Everything from an elaborate stove to a small tin can of fuel can get the job done. Do some research and find out what fits your style.

"Food: There's plenty of great camping food out there. It will probably be dehydrated and require fresh water to restore it. Foods that aren't dehydrated are much heavier, but they can be rewarding. Some cheese or an orange can feel great when you've been eating raisins and peanuts all day.

"Water Treatment: Last but not least. If you will be away from sanitized water sources, find a way to treat the water you find in streams. Pumps are an option, as well as treatment chemicals. Take care of yourself; there can be some nasty bacteria in fresh water sources.

You're sure to enjoy your time outdoors when you come prepared. Pack the right wilderness equipment and nothing can hold you back. Do some research on the equipment that suits you and you'll never regret it once you get outside.
