Ecological Certification for Organic Childrenswear

When our first child is born, it is a life-changing experience. Your life is no longer your own you have to care about this little one for 18 years or more ,and your thoughts immediately look to their future. In uncertain times, how can we be sure that the world our children will grow up to will be a healthy one?

Of course, we can't be sure, but there are certain things that we can do to set our children off on the right path. For one, we can live our lives as we hope our children will. We must set a precedent, show them how we need to care for ourselves, our planet, and its future. Buying organic babywear and childrenswear for your children sets an example, which shows you care about the planet they will one day be in charge of. Organic childrenswear is now ubiquitous, lower cost, fashionable and stylish, so there is no excuse to continue to purchase cotton goods which manufacturing processes harm the Earth.

Nowadays, there are a number of bodies that certify whether a product has truly been made in an organic fashion. It is easy to slap a green' badge onto a piece of children's clothing to suggest it has been made in an organic way, but has it really? The only way to be totally sure it to check whether the babywear has been independently certified as organically made.

Skal is one such certifier. It is a European certifier that ensures that any babywear marked with the Eko label will have originated from a truly organic source and production process. Another well-known certification is DyStar. Dystar works to ensure the dyes and pigments used in organic processing is just that organic. If the childrenswear has been certified by Dystar, it ensures that the product's dye is 100% organic and has not harmed the Earth.

Oko-tek is a further certification body which principally checks for harmful chemicals in products that are purporting to be organic. They check for over 100 chemicals that are harmful to the environment when used in the manufacturing process. Finally, a common stamp we would like to see is whether packaging or buttons etc have been made from 100% recyclable material.

When choosing organic babywear or childrenswear, it is best to try and find clothes that are certified by these bodies or others that work within your area. This way you can be totally sure the clothes you are buying for your children are 100% ecologically sound.
