LOGITECH G19 GAMING KEYBOARD REVIEW

This piece is a brief review of the Logitech G19 gaming keyboard for all you gamers out there who may be thinking of upgrading your present keyboard.

The G19 model seems to be the Logitech flagship model with a good many features on it, the first and most obvious of which is the aptly named Gamepanel, which for those of you who don't know is a flip-up color LCD screen with a measurable screen size of 320x240 millimetres, this screen will put a lot of vital game-play statistics within easy view and if that wasn't enough it has video and slide show playback capability, system information, IM and Voip communications information.

The display is also backlit and the colors can be customized to suit the individual as the color options are endless, but more importantly this allows the user to easily see which keys they are pressing, as wrong key press during a game could be disastrous and could result in an untimely exit from the game.

However Logitech have made a step forward in this direction with a desktop or game mode switch allowing the user to switch off the normal qwerty function keys to prevent accidental presses.

The second major function of big interest to gamers are the twelve programmable keys with macro capability on each key up to a total of three making the total keystroke possibilities thirty six that is per game, these hot keys allow you to configure single key presses, combinational macros and other on-the-fly operations.

The G19 keyboard also gives you the option to use up to five keys at once allowing for some killer game play to outflank your opponents.

The G19 also comes equipped with dual USB 2.0 ports allowing users to connect various devices to the unit including MP3 devices, SD cards, external hard drives and Flash drives, and if that's not enough you can also use these ports to charge other devices as well.

There are one-touch controls for volume and media playback included in this model.

The unit itself is tiltable and has a cleverly designed rebate under the base to keep the various cables in a tidy state.

The most up to date developments and fixes can be downloaded from the Logitech site and there is also a users forum which will be of great help if you ever need it.

The keyboard will run on both Windows and Mac OSX versions without using too much space about 20 MB is required.

There is a twelve month makers warranty and the unit comes with documentation and a user installation disc, and it's own dedicated power supply source, so no need to keep buying batteries.

To be fair to Logitech they have produced a nice piece of kit here but it unfortunately has a price tag to match, and is really aimed at hardcore gamers or people with fat wallets, there have also been a few criticisms directed at the G19 although most of these are subjective based on the individuals personal views and preferences.
