Director Thor Freudenthal was replaced by Flushed Away and Astro Boy director David Bower.

The film's trailer was shown with Gulliver's Travels on December 25, 2010. It was later released online on January 3, 2011. A poster for the film was released on January 14, 2011. In February 2011, an exclusive online-only trailer was released on the "Wimpy Kid Movie" YouTube channel. Due to the success of the first movie in Singapore, the movie will be aired there eight days before the US release.The TV trailer was released on March 2011 on The Hub channel.
The film has received mixed to positive reviews. Robert Abele of the Los Angeles Times gave the film a positive review while Pete Hammond of Boxoffice magazine gave it a mixed review. There are other film critics who likewise handed down mixed reviews for the film Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2:Rodrick Rules. Film critics in Asia seem to have positive reviews for the film, although a few do not wholly rate the film in a positive way.

On the other hand, Michael O'Sullivan of the Washington Post gave it a negative review stating "You can't fault the filmmakers for reshaping a diary into a cohesive film. You can however, fault them for taking one of the great antiheroes in preteen literature and turning him into, well, an even wimpier kid." I would think Sullivan's concern for the Kid is totally endearing.
Anyway, if I can butt in my own opiunion after watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2:Rodrick Rules, through this wonderful technology that is online streaming, would be based on how I and my family thougroughly enjoyed watching the film. You can just imagine happy tears falling from our eyes because of laughing out loud to the many very funny scenes that Greg would do just so he wont have to be embarrased on something.
Of course, I'm no film critic but given the chance, I will give a high positive rate for the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules because of the happy and enjoyable moments the film has given me and my family.
