As long as we are on the subject of behavioral problems, I thought it would be beneficial to offer some dietary suggestions to parents who are finding their children difficult to deal with. Yes, your child's diet could be making him/her naughty!
In a recent report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, eliminating certain foods from your child's diet could not only improve their behavior but could also improve your child's ability to focus and handle frustration.
Artificial colors, preservatives, even some fruits and berries have beenstudied and found to alter or impactbehavior negatively. FD&C Red Dye 40 and Yellow 5 are two ofthe most common triggers, and theyare found in so many foods, that the National Institutes of Health havesuggested they be banned from all foods that are primarily consumedby children.

Share: Preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and TBHQare in a wide variety of foods consumed by children, everything from cereal to peanut butter, and have been found to directly relate tohyperactivity, learning difficulties and behaviorial problems in children.
Salicylates, (a subset of NSAID's used to treat arthritis and inflammation)have been found inapples, oranges, grapes, berries, tomatoes and can also cause behavior problems.
Then of course, there is sugar, and it can causedrowsiness and decreased activity in children, as well as food allergies. Sugarupsets the mineral balance in the body, which has also been linked tobehavioral problems. Sugar suppresses the immune system, causes hyperactivity in many, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and cranky and unhappy children. It interferes with protein absorption, can cause depression, epileptic seizures, cell death, hormone imbalances, andlearning disorders, just to name a few. So, if you think your child has a Ritalin deficiency, think again. More than likely your child's uncooperative behavior is a direct result ofpoor diet and anervous system that is not functioning properly, probably to a great extent, but not limited to theirpoor eating and drinking habits. (visit:
