Choosing The Right Favor For Your Kids Birthday Party

Kids birthday party favors are generally a small gift given to each guest as a token

of your appreciation and thanks that they attended your child's party. These come in all shapes, sizes, and types. There is no hard and fast rule dictating how much you should spend or if you need to give them out at all. Some things to consider are your family budget, the type of party given, and the guests that will be in attendance.

Party favors also provide everyone at the party a memento to remember the party and something to take with them letting them know they are special and appreciated. They can help to make the birthday child feel like he or she was able to give back a little something to their friends.

When choosing a birthday party favor it's best to try to have those that match the party's theme. Kids love to have a party that reflects a certain theme or idea. Some want one that is based on their favorite super hero, cartoon character, or TV show. While others are happy with a more generic theme like a pirate theme, western theme, jungle theme or flower garden party theme.

Many people choose to make the favors. Others prefer to buy something. The variations are endless. Do your best to think about the type of party you are putting on and choose the favor that best reflects that theme.

As a general rule, if you will be buying the favors, you will end up spending more money if the favor is of some popular copyright protected cartoon character or super hero. So, if you are trying to keep the costs down, try going with the more generic style party. These are just as much fun and you will be able to get as good or better quality favors for less.

It's perfectly acceptable to include some candy or other tasty treat as part of the favor. You will want the main item to be something the party goers can have as a keepsake to remember the party. Have a main item and use candy, pencils, erasers or other small items to fill in. Be sure to include some kind of a thank you note with it.

Another popular idea is to personalize the favor. There are few things that excite a child more than having their name artfully displayed on something. Of course with this option you would have to do some pre-planning. You will need to know who will be in attendance in plenty of time to order the favors. You will need to know the correct spelling of each child's first name. And, of course, you will need to order then in time for the party.

One idea that makes a great party favor is a kid's personalized name tag. These fun and exciting name tags come in variety of girls and boys timeless themes and are quite reasonably priced.

There are a variety of ways to present the favors. I would not give them out until after the honored birthday girl or boy has opened their gifts. I have heard of people putting the favors in individual balloons, having the kids find their balloon, and popping them to get the goodies inside.

If this is something you want to do but your favors are too large, you can write on a piece of paper what the favor is, roll up the paper, slide it into the balloon, and blow it up. Now you can make a game of it. Have the kids find a balloon with the hidden surprise, pop the balloon, and bring the slip of paper to you for their treasure. You would not want to do this with younger children that may be afraid of a loud popping balloon.

Other more conventional ways are to put the favors in a bag or box and hand them out. If you choose to put them in a box, it's always fun to gift wrap it. That way everyone gets to open their own special gift. Kids love to unwrap gifts.

A good time to give out the favors is toward the end of the party. It helps to let everyone know the party is winding down and it's time for everyone to head home. You may even want to hand them out as they are leaving. That way there is no confusion about when the party ended.

Whatever you decide, be creative and have fun with it. You will only have a few years before that little one is gone. You will want to take lots of pictures to remember the best birthday party ever. Don't over think it. If you do some good basic planning you will have your answer to the party favor question and be remembered for being the parent with the coolest party around.
