Once a child reaches an age where he or she can begin to hold and manipulate toys the fun part begins. This is when parents can introduce fun toys that test the child's cognitive and physical motor skills. Children can learn through play and do from the start of recognizing other people. The ability of how a child learns depends on what they are exposed to, how soon they are exposed and how frequently they are exposed to a learning device.
Many times children are picking up on things when we do not realize it. Learning toys such as blocks with letters on them can teach letter recognition, motor skills and cognitive development skills. Blocks are something most children have and play with every day. They can learn to stack objects, sort by color and visually recognize letters using a toy like blocks. Educational toys are geared to getting children to earn new things without them knowing they are actually learning.
Children are more open to learning when it is done in a manner of playing or exploring. Think about something as simple as the alphabet. Children learn their ABC's through song and play. This is because it is fun at the time they are learning it. Although the child may be playing or does not seem to be paying any attention; their brain is still processing what is being heard, the tune and the order of the letters in the song. Then one day the child starts to hum the tune of the song and not long after begins to say the letters in the song. Their brain was working a thousand miles a min all along. When it comes to learning it is easier to allow the child to explore with educational toys at their own speed.
