Ways to Help Your Child Stop Bedwetting

If small children pee in their cradle, this doesn't become a big problem for we all know that when they reach the age of three and above they will know how to pass in the toilet. But, there are instances that even kids more than three years still wet their beds. This might be confusing for parents and embarrassing for the child. Some parents think that their kids wet because they were not able to train them properly, but this is not really true. If you are trying to stop the bed wetting issues, you should know first the reasons behind bed wetting.

Nocturnal enuresis is the medical term for bedwetting. Compared to girls, boys are highly susceptible for this condition. There are many reasons why children wet their beds like small bladder or maturity of the bladder control mechanism. If these things are the reasons of your child's behavior then his condition is called primary enuresis. But, if your child already stops peeing on his bed yet somehow began to pee again, then it is called secondary enuresis and is often caused by stress, juvenile diabetes and trauma.

One of the many ways to help your child stop from bedwetting is to prohibit him from taking in any fluid before he goes to bed. In this manner, he will sleep with fluid-free bladder.

Another technique so you can stop your kid from urinating on his bed is to make him practice bladder training at least once a day. You can do this by letting your child drink enough water and telling him to wait for few minutes after he feels the urge to pee. The time of waiting should be increased every day to develop muscle control. Such training should be done during day time.

To stop bedwetting, you can wake up your child during midnight and ask him to stand up and use the bathroom. Make sure that the bathroom is not too far from his bedroom for he may not like walking far in a sleepy state. Have soft lighting on your hallways so the child will not be frightened to walk to the bathroom alone.

Now you know some ways to help your child get over bed wetting. When applying these reminders, do not anticipate instant results. In addition, never punish your child due to bedwetting. This may cause him to have low self esteem. Consequently, never forget to appreciate him if he was able to wake up the next day without wetting his bed.
