The Artscape, with an enormous opera house and two other smaller theatres, shows some of the best international and local shows available in South Africa. The Baxter, in the leafy southern suburb of Rondebosch, has been showing some of the top names in theatre for over forty years. Even during the years of Apartheid the Baxter strove to provide integrative theatre to everyone who wished to experience it.
There aren't many places in the world as beautiful as Cape Town- with its whitewashed beaches and surrounding mountains, most visitors come expressly for the outdoor lifestyle that the city has become famous for.
The most photographed beaches are probably those that have become known as part of the platinum mile- the trendy beaches from Clifton to Camps Bay where the rich and famous (and everyone else) come to see and be seen. Stark white sand and turquoise waters are surrounded by palm trees and large picturesque rocks that have become highly recognisable fashion shoot locations. The beaches here are Westerly facing and the trendy sidewalk cafes and bars become packed during sunset hour when the whole area turns into a tropical paradise.
Kirstenbosch must be one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, on the slopes of Table Mountain it was one of the first gardens founded to preserve the country's unique flora in 1913. The garden is enormous and includes a large indoor greenhouse, permanent special plant exhibitions and beautiful stone sculptors that can be found hidden in the various nooks and crannies of the large leafy plants there.
