Warning lights are there for a reason. it's pretty self evident they are there to warn of situations. We have flashing warning lights on our games consoles, DVD players and recorders and on household appliances. Any light that flashes tends to signal trouble or danger of some kind. A LED warning light on vehicles signal danger and hazard, and these types of lights are the ones you really need to take notice of. Ignore a flashing light at your peril on the highway, either you are about to be pulled over or there is an emergency ahead.
When you hear a siren wail but don't see any flashing lights, that doesn't mean that there is any less danger. All it means is the flashing LED warning light is not yet in your line of vision. When you hear a siren, it's likely that an emergency vehicle is approaching and you need to slow down or pull into another lane to let the vehicle pass. Incredibly though there are some people who claim, they haven't seen the 'flashing lights' of a police vehicle or heard the siren. Often people are cocooned in there vehicles and they are oblivious to outside influences.
In over 40 states, there now exists some form of 'Move Over' law, and although these laws very from state to state their main function is to get road users to let emergency vehicles pass. The Move Over law also is designed to ensure the safety of emergency services personnel. Often drivers are more interested in what's going on up ahead when they see a LED warning light, than looking out for the people helping in the situation. Some states will give you an immediate fine if you fail to slow down or pull over when passing an emergency or when an emergency vehicle is attempting to pass you.
Sadly, there are a number of emergency services personnel killed each year whilst attending roadside emergencies. Many of them are run down by careless motorists who are too busy rubbernecking rather than being aware of the immediate danger ahead. A LED warning light is used on all emergency vehicles but it would seem these are not sufficient to really get the drivers attention and get them to slow down. Hence the introduction of the 'Move Over' law in many states. It's amazing how differently you would react to an emergency situation on the highway if you had previously received a $200 fine for failing to slow down!
Don't ignore any LED warning light you see on the road as they are there for a reason. A LED warning light tells you there is trouble up ahead and you would do well to drop your speed or risk being part of the accident yourself. Don't kill or injure emergency service personnel by your carelessness, you may well need their services one day yourself. Flashing lights of any kind mean danger, hazard or beware, don't ignore them at any time.
