Buzios vs. Itacare: Which is the best Brazil beach for me

?

In case you hadn't realised, Brazil has a lot of beaches! Of course being such a big country and sharing much of its border with the coast, this is of no surprise. Lucky for Brazil and for those planning to travel there, is the fact that it lies on the equator meaning that not only does it have an abundance of beaches, but that these beaches are some of the best in the world! While undoubtedly having some of the best beaches in the world, being such a big country, one has to wonder; where are the best beaches in Brazil? Well two places that certainly prove to be popular destinations, for reasons that will become apparent, are Buzios and Itacare.
Buzios vs. Itacare: Which is the best Brazil beach for me?

TheBuziospeninsula lies approximately 110 miles North-East of Rio de Janeiro and is easily accessed by road. This place provides a haven for the cariocas' (The Brazilian term for a resident of Rio de Janeiro) and tourists seeking a bit of respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Touted as being even better then its made out to be on the posters that advertise it, it has proved a favoured hang-out of the famous, counting Mick Jagger and Brigitte Bardot as its fans. Having established itself as a highlight of Brazil, there are many hotels to chose from along with a huge array of activities including watersports, fishing and snorkelling as well as there being a nearby 18-hold golf course. It is also the case that the cosmopolitan influence of Rio has extended out here meaning not only can you get a wide selection of Brazilian cuisine, but that there are also many restaurants offering high quality Japanese, Thai, Moroccan and French food. Don't let this give you the impression that you can't find your slice of peaceful paradise in Buzios though, as with over 20 beaches making up this peninsula, you'll find they all have there own personalities with many different things to discover and do on each.

Compared to Buzios, Itacare is perhaps more wild, rugged and untouched. Situated approximately 250 miles South of Salvador in Bahia state, you can expect to find a more deep-seated Afro-Brazilian culture here, devoid of the influence of a major cosmopolitan city like Rio. Afro-Brazilian party culture certainly exists here and you will hear live bands in bars lining the beach playing the traditional folk music, forr, into the early hours of the morning. As with Buzios, any visitor to Itacare can expect to find a wide range of activities here, particularly watersports. However, the thing that really sets Itacare apart from Buzios is its proximity to the Atlantic Amazon Rainforest. Which means Itacare doesn't just offer visitors the chance to get involved in classic beach activities but to partake in trekking, white-water rafting, canoeing and mountain-biking, amongst other things. Having the Atlantic Amazonian Rainforest on your doorstep also means that there are unprecedented chances to view some of Brazil's wildlife in an area that is considered to be one of the most rich and diverse in the world in terms of plants and animals.

So if you want to escape from the city to somewhere that is good enough for the Hollywood elite then head to Buzios. But if it's a wild Afro-Brazilian adventure you're after then you'll want to make Itacare a part of your Brazil holiday.
