Parents have so many options today when it comes to furnishing their children's room. The options are limited only by the pocket book. There are usually very good options in all price ranges. One way to definitely save money is to put the furniture together yourself. For many this is a wonderful idea because it allows them to spend more money on the actual furniture.

Designing a room for one or more young children can be a lot of fun and you should always let your child have a say in its design. If you have more than one child sharing a room, there are a variety of options to choose from; trundle beds, bunk beds, and lofts. One advantage with lofts is the freeing up of floor space. This allows more room for storage which is a major problem in most homes with kids. A trundle bed is always a good choice even if the room is only for one child, because as the child grows and has sleep-overs there is a built in bed at the ready. Some beds are designed like trundle beds but instead of a mattress underneath you have more storage space.

When looking to buy your child a desk you need to look at the functionality. It might be a good option for you to go with a corner fitting design. This is the type of floor plan where a standard type desk is in one corner, and the other corner is for today's electronic devices like laptops and includes storage for iPods, and game consoles. Since your child will be spending many hours doing homework it would be wise to invest in the best ergonomically designed chair you can afford.Build Storage and Functionality into your Child's Room Design

When it comes to dressers and chest of drawers for clothing the design options are endless. Don't buy anything too trendy and stick with more traditional styles so you get many years usage out of your choices. It is also highly recommended to use storage systems for your child's closets as these are very effective in helping with the clutter. If you have a laundry bin placed in the closet you may actually be able to keep the dirty clothes off the floor. Many times clutter in a child's room is solved just by adding a few storage bins. If you see furniture with lots of bins built into them already while it may look like a great design, think about whether those built in spaces are useful for your needs or will they be a hindrance when you're actually organizing things.

When planning to upgrade your toddler's room or if you want to change your child's current room you should concentrate on storage and functionality along with style.
