Are You Investing?

If you have any interest in the stock markets or in buying and selling stocks you may at some point in time decide to try your hand at Investing. You may go to an online broker or use a full service broker but however you choose to do it you are still Investing in a publically traded company that is traded on a stock exchange.

If you do plan to invest in a company you should do some homework before you put out any money. Of course if you live outside of the US you can get involved in CFD's which is a contract that is based on an underlying stock. If you get into one of these contracts you would not have any stock ownership and you have no voting privileges but your initial investment would be quite small compared to your investment when you are Investing by actually buying ownership in a company by purchasing a share of their stock.

When you go to invest in a company by purchasing a share or more of their stock you should seek some type of trading advice. Generally the stock market does not play well with amateurs. If someone who knows nothing about the stock market chooses to invest some of their money without any trading guidance then they should not have high expectations of making a lot of money. If this is what you are going to do then make sure you are Investing only what you can afford to loose or what you can afford to let sit in the stock market for as long as it takes to make back your money. And in some cases you will never get back your money.

If you do some research such as reading the financials that are published about a company and pay some attention to the market around you may make a decent guess when you finally choose a company to invest in. But you will still need to pay attention and follow that company's stocks closely so you can make a decision when the time comes to buy more stock or to sell what you own. You should pay attention to the stock charts to see how the company has performed historically before you invest.

There are a lot of penny stocks these are so called because they are stocks that trade for less than five dollars - around but for a penny stock to make you any money on your investment you would have to invest a lot of money in one of those stocks. The problem is that companies that issue penny stocks are doing so to get money for expansion or are a smaller ne company which may be issuing the stock to start in business. The failure rate of new businesses is very high especially in a poor economy so it is likely you would never see your money or the company again when you invest in some of these stocks. But sometimes penny stocks do end up winners.
