Traveling by RV is the most pleasurable form of travel there is

. It's the freedom to go anywhere there's a road to follow, completely self-contained with all of the comforts of home. There are no suitcases to pack, no schedules to follow, no dreary hotel rooms, and few limits. Take the pets and the kids and enjoy the sights and spontaneous side-trips along the way. It is camping in style and luxury with all of the advantages of beautiful natural settings, and none of the disadvantages of tents and blow-up mattresses. RV travel quickly becomes a way of life for those who have had the opportunity to enjoy it. With RV travel, the fun is as much the relaxing journey as the destination itself.

The biggest problem RV travelers have is deciding where to go next. In an RV, the entire United States is one giant playground of opportunity. For Northerners, the southern U.S. is often the destination of choice in the winter to take advantage of the pleasant, warmer weather and recreational offerings of golf, fishing, and sight-seeing. Florida is among the most popular of winter destinations for Northerners and Southerners alike with its many recreational and entertainment options and extraordinary natural beauty.

One destination in Florida that should be included on every RVer's list is the Suwannee River. A federally designated wild river, the Suwannee River is the last unspoiled waterway in the southeastern United States, winding for 266 miles from southern Georgia's Okefenokee Swamp to Florida's Gulf of Mexico. Known for its teeming sturgeon population and high limestone banks, the river is fed by over 197 freshwater springs. It also boasts the only whitewater rapids in Florida.

The Suwannee River was made internationally famous by Steven Foster's popular song "Old Folks at Home" with the well-known lyrics that begin "Way down upon the Suwannee River." The song became Florida's state song in 1935. The songwriter is still celebrated today with the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, featuring the yearly Florida Folk Festival, and Stephen Foster Museum.Add The Suwannee River To Your Rv Destination List

Recreational and entertainment opportunities are plentiful along the Suwannee River. In addition to boating, fishing, and swimming, there are numerous trails for hiking and biking where you can enjoy Florida's wildlife, including bald eagles, hawks, egrets, alligators, and giant sturgeon leaping as much as six feet out of the water. Enjoy a round or two of golf and plan a wine tasting at the local winery. Visitors can enjoy the Quilt and Arts and Craft Shows, Rural Folklife Days, and much more. For your next RV trip, put the Suwannee River campground on your list as a Must Do destination.
