A Classroom in French that Gets Kids Involved
Share: If you homeschool, one of your challenges is to provide the good parts of a public education without the drawbacks
. One of the drawbacks of public education is the reliance on rote, boring methods to teach children important things. You can go above and beyond the norm and provide a classroom in French that keeps kids engaged with what they're learning. One of the best ways to provide this is to incorporate music into the lessons. In fact, you can turn a lesson about music and storytelling into a lesson about language without even letting the kids know!
A good musical theater piece can keep kids enthralled for a long time. Offering such materials as a way to keep the projects in your classroom in French fresh and interesting is a good way to foster better results. Children remember songs with ease and, even if the words are in a foreign language, they tend to remember the lyrics, as well. This is overcoming a major hurdle in a very easy away, and it makes it easier for children to both learn and to put what they learn to use. This has to do with context.
A lot of the time, when public school kids go to a classroom in French, it means that they'll be learning disjointed phrases, repeating the same things over and over and just learning enough to make sure that they pass the class and get the credit. The problem with this model is simply that there's no fun involved. Of course, learning isn't always fun, but it needs to be fun a lot of the time to make it worthwhile for young people. By adding music to the curriculum, you can make sure that children don't dread a classroom in French.
Remember to seek out quality materials. Ideally, they should incorporate a fun story, good songs and be easy to follow. If you're not fluent yourself, that's actually an advantage when selecting materials. The materials you use don't have to be things that you've already mastered. Learning along with your children is a powerful way to create a bond and it helps keep you interested in the lessons, as well. Of all the different ways to provide language education and to teach children to speak French, this is one of the most effective available to homeschoolers.
