The Marina
The Marina is the heart of Kalkan. Once notable as one of the few good natural harbours in the region, it has been developed into a vibrant and attractive centre, filled with excellent restaurants and bars. There are usually many sailing ships and luxurious yachts passing through the harbour, offering plenty to look at. The Marina is also the place to go to for gulet cruises and local boat trips up the coast.
Kaputas and Patara Beaches
Kalkan has a small rocky beach of its own, but the real highlights are to be found a short distance away. Kaputas and Patara (both accessible via reliable public transport from Kalkan hotels) are regarded as two of the very best beaches in Turkey. Both are outstanding, with Kaputas being a delightful swimming cove backed by a gorge and Patara a glorious 18km white sand beach.
Kekova
Just a short boat ride away from the resort is the island of Kekova, a fascinating sight that you shouldn't miss. Once an inhabited part of the mainland, a part of the island was submerged by an earthquake thousands of years ago, and the ruins of an ancient town can still be seen just below the surface. The sunken town is a dramatic site, but the rest of Kekova is equally charming, with plenty of beaches and bays to enjoy during your trip here.
Patara
There are many ancient historical sites within easy reach of Kalkan hotels, but Patara is one that should not missed. The ruins of this ancient city are in a remarkably good condition, and a trip here is essential for anyone with an interest in the ancient world. The surrounding area has plenty to see as well - in addition to the outstanding beach that has already been mentioned, there is also a nearby nature reserve, and so a trip out to Patara truly has something to offer everyone!
