Families who live quite far away from each other can often feel quite saddened by their distance at Christmastime. However, with advancements in technology there are always ways to keep in touch with those dear to us.
First and foremost, don't forget the oldest method of communication the postal service! While, at this time of year, the post will be incredibly busy with letters from Santa and other Christmas messages, it'll still make sure your Christmas messages get through to your nearest and dearest. There's nothing quite like a hand-written letter or card to cheer up your day, so this method not only is the most traditional, but it holds sentimental meaning as well, as they know you went out of your way to write to them.
Secondly is the telephone. Calls to distant relatives may be slightly expensive sometimes, but at this time of year, you can't put a price on a nice chat and a Christmas message from someone you love. You could always ask your telephone provider to suggest a package for you that gives you cheaper or even free calls long-distance or even internationally. Alternatively, you could use online methods to phone your relatives this is quite a new advancement in technology but it's often a lot cheaper, and most of the time even free, to phone those you love.
Speaking of the internet, the most recent advancement is things like e-mail and messengers. You can e-mail each other special Christmas messages or even Christmas e-cards from the internet. Alternatively, you can use instant messaging systems to connect with your family. Through these clients, you can talk through web-cam's and microphones, allowing you to not only talk to your family, but be able to see them as well. Of course, this is quite an advanced form of communication, and your slightly older relatives may not be able to grasp the technology behind it, so it may be best sticking to more traditional methods of communication for them!
