What are your goals for your child?
Most of us have been through a stage when as children we were asked what we wanted to become when we grow up? Some of us wouldn't have a ready answer while a few of us would probably give an answer that would change in a few years. A seed doesn't know the kind of tree it will become, and neither do parents know the vocation their children will eventually pursue. It is for the parents to understand the importance of setting goals when it comes to their children's future. It is equally important to create awareness about their future in terms of what they could be, and how they can accomplish what they desire to be. Goal setting is done to train the mind to focus on an objective. It is an exercise that works out best when you catch them young and train them to focus on an aim, very much like an archer aiming at the target. Try taking a magnifying glass and holding it over a piece of paper in the sun. After a while, the paper gets burnt and develops a hole. A simple concept as this, backs the functioning of a laser in science, and this the concept we use to pursue a goal. Goal setting doesn't only apply to academics but also applies to anything ranging from learning to play an instrument or achieving something in sports, to becoming a millionaire. The secret lies in focused concentration. Goals are classified as short term goals and long term goals. Short term goals could be : lining up a chore of jobs for your child to do. This can range from anything like say: things to be done in the week- make a model by Friday, give the clothes for dry cleaning, finish summer holiday homework etc to gearing up your child showing an interest in the medical sciences, to become a doctor, setting tasks related to the skills required in that profession for him everyday till the goal is achieved. Parents' do tend to expect a lot out of their child and at times this affects the children, because they get pressurized in the process. The best thing to do in such cases is then to set your expectations from your child, neither to low and neither too high but averagely.
Goals that involve a lot of steps must be broken into smaller and finer result oriented steps to achieve it. But the best thing to do while setting goals for your child is to evaluate your child as an individual without making a comparison with other children while setting goals that are realistic and fulfilling.OSA is a portal that caters to parents and helps makes school admissions a delightful experience.
