Travel Today, Live, And Make Money
For many years I recall so many people talk about wanting to travel
, but not having the money, or the time, or being too busy. Some,I know, have looked back regretfully about not having done something they really wanted to do. Sadly, all of them failed to factor in the passage of time and so, regrets set in.And yet, looking back with regrets serves no purpose. The past is dead and there is no magic time boomerang to help you recoup mis-spent years.
So, accepting that the past is gone, what about the future? Sorry, but that doesn't really exist either. We look forward to it. We plan for it. But it may never come! See, we have no idea what tomorrow will bring. We anticipate its coming, we look forward to events, but there is a slim chance that we could be snuffed out like a candle and there would be no tomorrow.
The unfortunate thing about possibly dying is that when they put you in that wooden box, they don't ever let you out to play! How's that for cold comfort?
See, the fact is, that we are all on our way to death. We don't like to think about it, but it's true. Every minute, every hour, and every week that you spend dithering, wondering what to do, considering whether to take a particular risk, or whether to afford to do something or not, is one minute, one week, or one month of your life that has been chopped off. You don't notice it. It happens by stealth, but it does happen! Pretty depressing when you think about it like that, isn't it!
So why can't you afford that holiday? Is it because you have a hefty mortgage on a house that you only use a quarter of? Is it because you run two fancy cars? Maybe you are one of those people who believe your boss needs you, because you are the only person in the entire world capable of doing your job as well as you do? Huh? Think again! You are dispensable, and if you die tomorrow, guess what? They will soon find a substitute! It's a sobering thought I know, but I'm really trying to give you a bit of a reality check!
And if I have given you a reality check, maybe it's now time to take stock. If you find that you have been caught up in consumerism, that you are living beyond your means, that your debts are really stopping you from living, it's time to unload and live!
Buying a smaller house might be an idea to start with. Live with one car. Give yourself permission not to clothes shop for six months. Eat at home. It usually tastes better anyway. Have a media fast. That way you will not be tempted by the sales ads that we all have become addicted to.
Here's something you might like to do. Next time you are watching your favourite show on TV, make a list of all the new gadgets being advertised that you didn't know about yesterday. Are you tempted? Do you need them? Yes!! Of course you do! But haven't you managed your life to date without them?
The reality is that we are all lured into having the latest and best gadgets, the types that no kitchen is complete without. But let's face it. We buy them, use them for a couple of months, and then, they are consigned to the back of a cupboard. The result is that we need new kitchens to house all the unused 'must-have' utensils that we have acquired!!! Are you starting to understand?
You will have to be strong if you make the decision to change. There are lots of people out there who won't understand whatever you're doing. They'll talk! They'll gossip. But you know, there's an old saying that I have learned. "What other people think of you is none of your business'.
When you have intuited the meaning of this, gossip will not worry you in the least.
And when you board tht plane, your heart thumping in anticipation, you will have few regrets. No longer will you be worried about the material things in life and you will have the requisite savings to have fun. Better still! You will be in for the ride of your life!
As Saint Augustine said, "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page". Go travelling!
