There are many things to do in Cusco Peru

There are many things to do in Cusco Peru. Cusco (also spelled Cuzco) was the center of the Inca Empire from the mid 15th century until it was conquered by the Spanish in 1532. Cusco is the archaeological capital of the Americas and is a city where past and present collide. The area offers a great variety of awe-inspiring experiences.

The Top 5 Things to Do In Cusco Peru Are:

1) Machu Picchu

This is the main reason why most tourists visit Peru. Machu Picchu was built by the Incas around 1430 AD. It is located high in the Andes Mountains just above the town Aguas Calientes. This ancient city is a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases the marvelous architectural abilities of the Incas surrounded by spectacular views.Things to Do In Cusco Peru by:Thomas Carroll

2) Inca Trail

The Inca Trail is an ancient road system that leads up to Machu Picchu. Hiking the trail offers outstanding views of the Andes and several ancient ruins. The trail may be hiked in two or four days until Machu Picchu is reached.

3) City Tour

This includes visits to the must-see Plaza de Armas (Main Square), the Spanish Cathedral, and the impressive Inca ruins of Koricancha, Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay and Sacsayhuaman with its huge stones. Estimates for the largest limestone block at Sacsayhuaman vary from 128 tonnes to almost 200 tonnes.

4) Sacred Valley Tour

This tour takes you to the town of Pisac where you will visit its unique market and Inca ruins. At the village of Chinchero there are more Inca sites to visit. The most impressive Inca ruin of the Sacred Valley is Ollantaytambo, which was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti and served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui during the Spanish conquest.

5) Choquequirao

Meaning "Cradle of Gold" in Quechua, Choquequirao is remarkably similar to Machu Picchu in structure and architecture. The partially uncovered ruins are estimated to be about 10 times the size of Machu Picchu. A four to five day trek through the mountains to Choquequirao and back will prove itself to be well worth the visit.

Relics and imprints from the great Inca Empire remain to this day, melding Cusco into a modern world that seems unable to change the unique character of the city. With its bountiful historical relics, myths and legends, Cusco, Peru is a very special place for any traveler.
