The Reason Teeth Whitening Is Popular
Out of all the physical appearance enhancing trends today
, teeth whitening is popular because the products are available to the masses. Today's society is all about how to be faster, stronger, thinner, the most beautiful. The market is overflowing with wrinkle creams, diet pills, workout gadgets, and most notably, tooth whitening products.
People can't seem to get enough of all the supposed "miracle" products. Some are even willing to shell out huge sums of money for surgical procedures that enhance their appearance. Cosmetic dentistry, among other cosmetic procedures, have been on the rise for the past decade.
First impressions are most likely formed on someone's physical appearance. When you describe someone, normally you will use a physical feature of theirs. It's more likely that you will say "Have you seen Jim? You know, the tall one?" as opposed to "Have you seen Jim? You know, the nice one?".
Most assumptions are made based on this as well. Perhaps you notice someone is underweight. You are more likely to assume that they have an eating disorder than to consider they may be ill or have other physical problems that have caused weight loss. Having this in mind is a pretty good reason for someone to want to always look their best and always strive towards a nicer physical look.
Thinking about all the judgements being made about you is enough to make a person want to look good. As if that was not enough, the example that superstars make on is also another huge motivator. Magazines and television ads are full of gorgeous people claiming that you too can look like them if you just buy a certain product. Megastars are made up to look perfect for each appearance giving the false impression that they are in fact flawless.
This opens the door for the companies that make these products. They deliver their message straight to you, at your weakest spot. If you would just do this, or just buy this, or just subscribe to this, then you too can be a star! Or at least that's what they claim. The truth of the matter is, most of these products they market hardly work like they claim. The small print says "results may vary" or "results not typical". But who wants to believe that small print? People would much rather believe they can achieve perfection.
As if all this pressure didn't cause enough stress, there exists an internal pressure inside of you that tells you that you need to look better. The mirror turns into your enemy. Each time you look in it you see something that you could improve. You need silkier hair, less wrinkles, lose 10 pounds, and yes certainly you should whiten that smile.
Some people don't take what's available at the store to be enough. The teeth whitening products are good, but wouldn't a bleaching session at the dentist be even better? Or one step better, porcelain veneers to get that ultimate dazzle? There are some people who are relentless when it comes to achieving perfection.
