How Dental Braces Work For Straightening Teeth

One of the most common ways how teeth can be straightened comes from the use of dental braces

. These are materials that work in a simple way to help with making sure that one's teeth can look their best over time.

What happens here is that a series of brackets are placed onto the front of the teeth. These are generally going to be made with ceramic or plastic materials although some dentists still use metal brackets. After these are installed onto the teeth a wire will be placed through the teeth. This is a wire that is used to help with tightening the teeth so that they can move into position over time. The wire that will be used is going to be in the same that a dentist will want your teeth to be in.

As the wire works with the teeth it will work to apply pressure onto the teeth so that they can move into the shape that the wire features. Over time the teeth will move in conjunction with the wire so that they can match the same curve that the wire has laid out for them. When this is done the teeth will end up becoming straight.

The pressure that is used for getting the teeth to move into their right places is something that is relatively minimal. However once a month or so a patient will these dental braces will have to go back to one's dentist to get the wires tightened up. This is so the wires will be able to continue to work to get one's teeth straight and also so that the pressure that the wires need for them to work can continue to be properly applied onto the teeth.

As soon as the teeth are in their right places the dental braces will have successfully worked. When this happens the dental braces can be removed as the brackets and wires will be uninstalled. This is because the teeth will no longer have to work with a wire to get them to move into their right spots.

Dental braces will work for a varying period of time depending on the severity of one's condition. In some of the least severe cases dental braces can be worn for only six months. In more severe instances it could take two years for them to work. This timeframe will vary according to the patient's general needs.
