Skills Recognition in the Australian Context
So many people have not had the opportunity to study fulltime due to a broad variety of reasons.
Having not had the opportunity to study should not keep an individual from obtaining an accredited, nationally recognized qualification, which can stimulate future employment opportunities, open global recognition or give the individual credits towards further study opportunities.
The Australian government has acknowledged the need for Skills Recognition for people actively involved in their industries.
But what exactly is Skills Recognition?
Skills recognition refers to skills and knowledge you have already gained through on-the-job experience (a.k.a. informal learning). Skills recognition may count towards an Australian nationally recognized qualification.
What is RPL?
RPL stands for recognition of prior learning'. Some international educational institutions refer to RPL as credit transfer'. If you have previously done some formal studies you may get credit (RPL) for it in your new qualification. In other words: RPL means if you have already completed a subject then you don't have to do that subject again.
Both Skills Recognition as well as RPL is endorsed by the Australian Government.
There are organizations like the Continental Education Consultancy Group that provide a user-friendly Skills Recognition processes to enable individuals to maximize their qualification outcomes.
Oversees skills recognition and RPL
Skills recognition and RPL is a great way to obtain an Australian nationally recognised qualification if you are/were living oversees for most of your life. It is irrelevant how or where you acquired your skills and experience as long as you can demonstrate that you have them, and that they apply to the subjects in the qualification you want.
What are the benefits of formal recognition?
If skills recognition and/or RPL is done before you enroll for a qualification it makes obtaining your qualification more time and cost efficient, and a lot more rewarding.
Getting a qualification by skills recognition and RPL cost less because you're not paying to learn things you are already competent in.
