Highest Ever Personal Injury Award Recorded In British Legal History.
On the 16th November 2006 the life of Chrissie Louise Johnson was changed forever.
Miss Johnson was a passenger in a friend's car which tragically lost control and collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction. Miss Johnson was wearing a seatbelt at all times.

Miss Johnson sustained serious injury including severe brain damage involving a severe diffuse axonal injury to her brain with particular damage to the mid brain-stem and cerebella areas resulting devastatingly in paralysis of all four limbs.
For approximately 12 months following the serious injury accident the claimant was in a state similar to that of a coma. In December of 2006 she was transferred from the Royal London Hospital to the Queens Hospital then in February 2007 moved to Northwick Park Hospital Rehabilitation Unit. In July 2007 the claimant was then discharged from hospital into rehabilitation residential centre at the Queen elizabeth's Foundation Brain clinic.
December 2008, just over 2 years from the serious injury accident the claimant was then discharged to live in a bungalow which provided an annex for carers and space for all the family, until a property was found for her to live in permanently. Upon discharge she was provided with privately funded care and therapy team.
As the claimants awareness level improved she was virtually paralysed and was dependent on her wheelchair. She also suffered severe difficulties with her intellect, memory, concentration, speech and her planning and organisational skills. Following continual regular physiotherapy speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy and neuropsychology. At the date of the serious injury crash the claimant had completed her GCSe exams and have been keen to pursue a career as a paramedic. However, following this devastating serious injury accident she would never be able to work again.
The claimant's prognosis was that her life expectancy was reduced, she would remain virtually paralysed for the rest of her life and never work. It was expected that she would continue to require the same level of therapy throughout her life. The level of therapy will reduce in time to a point where the maintenance therapy will required.
Settlement was agreed out of court with an initial award of 4,000,000.00 followed by periodical payments of 300,000.00 for the rest of her life due to the serious injury.
This is the largest ever compensation payment that has been approved by the english Courts.
This case alone has made legal history and is a sign that even though there is no conceivable way that Miss Johnson would ever be put in the position she was prior to the serious injury accident.
