7 Tips For Happier Bath Times With Your Dog

If you think about it, puppies are just like toddlers

. One moment theyre sitting happily and behaving in one corner and the next thing you know theyre covered in dirt and are rolling around the floor. Keeping a puppy clean can be a big challenge to most dog owners, especially if your dog likes to get into those tiny spaces or go outside to run and play.

Here are a few ways to make bath time a bit more enjoyable for them.

Its no big deal

If your puppy doesnt like the thought of bath time, then dont make it something that they have to dread. Dont announce it and just take them to the bathroom or where youre going to give them a bath.

Water temperature

Dont use water thats too cold or too hot. Depending on where you are and the temperature outside, youd want to adjust how cold or warm the water is so your dog will be comfortable. Also, never fill the up the tub to the top. Keep the water shallow. This also goes the same for dogs that have degenerative myelopathy.

Toys

Add some toys like a ruby ducky or ball. These little toys could help them calm down and become more comfortable around the water.

Shampoo and soap

Use dog shampoo and soap thats not too harsh. Although some people say that its ok to use human shampoo when bathing your dog, this does not contain ingredients like parasite repellents. Be careful not to get soap and shampoo in their eyes since this irritates them. If you do, wash it out immediately.

Slip proof

One of the things that puppies dont like and hate about bath time is that they keep on slipping on the tub, which could get painful and annoying. If your tub doesnt have a slip proof bottom, then get one of those flip free adhesive mats and place it on the bottom of the tub. These slip proof mats also help with dogs that have degenerative myelopathy since they have a hard time balancing themselves.

No to running water

Some puppies find this scary and its a waste of water. Use a dipper or pitcher to pour the water on them and avoid scaring them.

Massages

One way for you to relax your puppy and make them know that bath time is actually enjoyable is by giving them a massage. Once they associate bath time with massages, theyll start to enjoy it.
