Mesothelioma and Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography Scan

Conclusions - Foscan-mediated PDT can be safely combined with surgery at the established MTD. Unlike most other surgery-based multimodal treatments for mesothelioma, Foscan-mediated PDT affords the option, in selected patients, of accomplishing tumor debulking with a lung-sparing procedure rather than an extrapleural pneumonectomy. A phase II study is warranted."Mesothelioma and Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography Scan By:...more

Mesothelioma and Immune Profile of Pleural Effusions

Conclusions: SS1P is well tolerated with pleuritis as the DLT at the highest dose level. Evidence of clinical activity was noted in a group of heavily pretreated patients. Phase II clinical trials of SS1P are being planned for malignant mesothelioma and other mesothelin-expressing malignancies."Mesothelioma and Immune Profile of Pleural Effusions ...more

Chemotactic and Haptotactic Properties of Mesothelioma

When STAV serum-free conditioned medium was separated by using fast protein liquid chromatography Superose 6 gel filtration, two motility-inducing protein peaks were detected. The first peak contained proteins with molecular weight > 220,000 that had both chemotactic and haptotactic properties, while the second peak contained material with apparent molecular weights of approximately 67,000 that had chemotactic and chemokinetic (random motility) but not haptotactic properties. Analysis of the Mr 67,000 material indicated that it was a heat-sensitive and trypsin-digestible protein. The production of both soluble and insoluble extracellular matrix components by human mesothelioma cells and the motile response to these molecules as well as the production of a Mr 67,000 autocrine motility factor-like substance may be important for the highly invasive motile behavior of this tumor."  Another interesting study is called, "Complementary value of five carcinoma markers for the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma, adenocarcinoma metastasis, and reactive mesothelium in serous effusions" by Mick Delahaye C.T.
