Sometimes it's just plain hard to be a parent. One such time for many parents is potty training their child. No matter what, you have to potty train your child at some point; although, it is possible that the leaders at preschool or a caregiver at home could accomplish this task for you. Regardless of who takes the lead, all the adults with whom the child spends time need to know that the child is being potty trained and how it is being accomplished.

Teaching your children to use the potty does not only mean the obvious, but includes teaching your child to flush the toilet and wash his or her hands when done. Teaching these habits early makes it easier for your child to preform them regularly. Other things like replacing empty toilet paper rolls and cleaning the toilet can be taught at appropriate ages when the child is older. It's important for your child to understand all aspects of the bathroom cleanliness, not just how to use the toilet.

So how do you actually potty train your child? Believe or not, there are children that essentially potty train themselves. The child decides he or she is ready to use the big potty, and the child simply starts doing it. That's the easy one. Your next child will not likely be as easy. One hint: using pull-ups all day is not beneficial to potty training as it's simply a diaper the child can pull up on his or her own. Being able to spend the day outside is a good way to start since accidents don't harm furniture or flooring.

Some places to find tips on potty training include searching the web, asking family or friends, getting books from the library or bookstore, or asking other children how they did it. The problem is you'll get as many different suggestions or tips as people you ask, so ultimately you have to decide what you think will work best for your child. Regardless of the frustration, your child will be potty trained eventually so be patient.
