Why Purchase an Elliptical Machine?

Why Purchase an Elliptical Machine?

After a great workout at your local gym, you've probably thought to yourself how great it would be to be able to workout from the comfort of your own home without having to get into a car and drive to the gym. You probably also have an exercise routine that consists of some time on an elliptical machine. These machines are big and in some cases can make a lot of noise. Are they really something you can bring home and use on a daily basis?

The answer to that question is a resounding yes! Over the years, elliptical machine manufacturers have spent a lot of research and development costs on figuring out how to make affordable elliptical machines that every day people can use in their homes. Now adays you can find elliptical machines that are built for tall people with longer stride lengths, or ellipticals that are built for short people with shorter stride lengths. You can also find ellipticals that are designed for heavy-set people that weigh over 300 pounds.

But what about noise you ask? Manufacturers have looked at the noise issue and some models are whisper quiet that you could use them in an apartment and not wake your family members. In testing, I've found that most elliptical machines are reasonably quiet, however some can be noisy. The ones that are higher priced typically are more sturdy and don't have a lot of creaking noises that the cheaper ones do.

Elliptical prices have come down quite a bit over the years. Bare bones elliptical machines without all the bells and whistles can be had for a couple hundred dollars. If you have a larger budget, you can spend thousands for the top of the line brands. Most average brands run between $700-$2000.

If you are seriously considering making a move to your own home gym, an elliptical machine is essential for cardiovascular workouts. When exercising, you should strive for at least 10 to 15 minutes of cardio in each session. Elliptical machines are great for this because of the low impact they have on your body. You don't have to worry about the impact your feet and knees have to absorb like you would running. A lot of people experience injuries while running and opt to use an elliptical machine because they're safer.

All in all, I would strongly encourage looking at an elliptical machine for your home if you do plan on making the plunge to owning your own home gym. Over the long term you should save quite a bit of money by not having to pay membership fees to your local gym.
