Why Do Kids Wet The Bed?

Why Do Kids Wet The Bed?

Bedwetting is a problem that affects almost all children

. Most kids stop wetting the bed between the ages of 3 and 5 years. Others continue to wet the bed into their teens or even adulthood. Boys often learn to stop wetting the bed later than girls.

The reason kids wet the bed is because they are in an extremely deep state of sleep and unable to wake up. This typically stops when the bladder matures and the mind becomes more attuned to the bodys signals to wake up.

If your kid does wet the bed then you should never punish them. This will only lead to emotional distress and lowered self esteem. Talk to them and be sure they understand there is no problem it was just an accident.

Bedwetting can be very stressful for both the child and parent. If your kid is wetting the bed long after the age of 5 or after a substantial time of not wetting it then a professional opinion might be in order. There might be a more serious underlying cause. If your kid is still wetting the bed at age 7 they are probably going to start feeling stressed out and ashamed over it. You will probably be feeling the stress from changing the bed constantly and having an overly anxious child around. Why Do Kids Wet The Bed?

If your kid does have a problem with wetting the bed then you should take a close look at your bedtime routine. Make sure they do not drink too much right before bed. Also, they should make a trip to the bathroom and at least attempt to empty their bladder just before lights out. During daytime hours your kid should not be urinating any more than they need to. Only urinating when they really need to will help to strengthen the bladder so that it can hold more urine.

A good way to try and kick the habit early is to purchase a moisture alarm. These alarms can be either slipped into the pajamas or right underneath the sheets. As soon as they sense moisture they set off a beacon and your kid may have a chance to make it to the bathroom before completely wetting the bed. If your kid is a really deep sleeper then you might have to go wake them up when you hear the alarm.

Passiflora is a good herbal choice to help get your child through their bedwetting years. It helps them to deal with the anxiety that it can cause. Hypericum Performatum is also a good choice that offers benefits to those that are feeling a bit depressed about their problem. A good mixture of emotional support and herbs is often all that is needed to get your child through these difficult years.
