Poor Children - Bringing Back Hope

Poor Children - Bringing Back Hope

Hope is a strange, visceral concept. It is one of those words that, despite a clear dictionary definition, is often unquantifiable. Hope is the desire to see things change, to achieve something worthwhile, to have a better life. But by adding a few letters, hope can be transformed all too easily into hopelessness. And for children, the consequences of losing hope can be profound.

Poverty - a new definition of hopelessness

For children living in poverty around the world, hope can be a very fragile thing. They don't hope to go to college one day - they hope that they will be able to find enough to eat to survive. In the poorest regions of the world and even here in our own country, hope can be elusive and delicate, easily crushed and transformed into hopelessness. At its most fundamental level, this is what poverty does to children. It crushes their spirit and leaves them wondering if there is any reason to continue hoping that tomorrow will be a better day. It can also block the path to God's love, masking the light and message of love that He has for all of His children.

But before you feel hope begin to slip away yourself, there are things you can do to restore this fragile concept for children in need. By showing you care about them through child sponsorship and supporting organizations that work tirelessly to help the most vulnerable members of a community, hope can begin to grow again.Poor Children - Bringing Back Hope

Across the world, aid organizations and Christian ministries are working with the poorest communities to rebuild hope. That can be practical help, such as helping a village whose only water source is miles away to install a pump so that clean drinking water is readily available. Or help can be spiritual, such as introducing communities to the teachings and love of Jesus Christ. What's important is that such efforts show the world's poorest communities that the rest of mankind hasn't forgotten about their plight, and is doing something positive to help them restore their pride, their passion in their community, and, of course, their hope.

How can I help?

One of the best ways you can help is to sponsor a child. By donating a few dollars a month, you can welcome a child living in poverty into your heart and your family, giving that child a connection that transcends borders or geographic location, and a pathway to a more hopeful future. Your help will provide a child with real, practical assistance in things that we take for granted, like a decent education or access to health care. You can also donate to charities and aid organizations working with children in poverty around the world, including children right here in the United States. Locally, why not get involved and donate not just money, but your time as well?

There's one way you can help that doesn't cost anything. By remembering poor children in your prayers, you can be part of a spiritual connection that can restore hope across the world. Organize prayer groups at your local church with the express intention of focusing your prayers toward children in poverty everywhere.
