What To Expect In The First Two Months After Childbirth

The weeks after having a child are extremely tedious

. You have to make an enormous adjustment to your lifestyle both emotionally and physically. The stress you deal with during this time is likely the worst you will have to experience during your entire lifetime. As time passes you will find a routine and begin to feel much better but I am hoping this article will help get you through the first few weeks.

The physical changes you go through right after childbirth are right on the surface as your body begins recovering. For the first few days you will feel pain as uterus begins contracting. Chances are your doctor will give you a medication to help deal with this pain. For the first two to six weeks you will have slight bleeding from the vagina. You should not use tampons to absorb the bleeding but thick maternity pads.

Do not have sex until four to six weeks have passed. If you are unsure about how to deal with birth control then you should talk to your doctor about it. If you had a cesarean section then keep in mind that your recovery time will be longer than a natural birth. If you had a C-section then it will be painful to do everyday things like climb stairs or walking. You must move around despite the fact that it will be painful.

It is likely that your breasts will be tender and full of milk. To alleviate the pain try ice packs or warm compresses to them daily. If you choose to breastfeed then do it often (on demand).What To Expect In The First Two Months After Childbirth


You can expect to have a funny sleep routine, at least for the first couple of weeks. Anytime that the baby is sleeping you should try to take a nap. Also, get your husband and family involved. It will be easier to deal with a crying baby when the task is taken by several people and in shifts.

If you have developed constipation, swelling in the feet and legs or incontinence then do not be alarmed. This can be quite normal following childbirth. Make sure that you drink a lot of water and eat high quality foods that are high in fiber. If this does not work then stool softener is available at your local pharmacy or grocery store. If your constipation is more serious then check with your doctor before trying an enema or laxatives.

Most women gain weight during pregnancy and then fight to get it off after the baby is born. Do not be in too big of a rush to do this especially if you are breastfeeding. Breastfeeding uses extra calories and should help you lose weight in itself. Try your exercises and dieting at least two months after the baby is born.
