What To Eat For Ivf Treatment

What To Eat For Ivf Treatment

If you are about to undergo IVF, then like many things in life

, good preparation is so important. There is much you can do to improve your diet and prepare your body for egg retrieval and implantation. If you would like to know what to eat for IVF treatment, then ideally you should be considering changing your diet around 3 months beforehand but if your procedure is much closer than this, do not worry as each beneficial change you make will still have a positive impact.

The basis of your diet should be wholesome, fresh, organic foods. You should ensure that food has not undergone treatment with an fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics or chemical pesticides. If you are not already within the healthy weight bmi range for your height, then you should try to allow yourself the chance to move towards it, as being either overweight or underweight can have an adverse effect on fertility.

When looking at what to eat for IVF treatment in terms of specific foods, then common sense applies. You should aim to eat a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables in a "rainbow" of colors to obtain the maximum nutritional benefit. Wholegrains, brown bread, beans, seeds and nuts are all good for those undergoing IVF treatment. Lean organic meat should also be included as should fish farmed in non-polluted waters.

One fruit worthy of special mention is pineapple. This fruit contains a nutrient called bromelin, which believed to help with implantation. Try to include a couple of small portions a day in your diet.

As well as considering what to eat for IVF treatment, what you drink is equally important. One large study undertaken a few years ago indicated that drinking coffee could impair fertility by as much as 50% and, equally worrying, that coffee drinking in both the male and female could increase the rate of miscarriage and impair foetal growth.

It is also recommended that you do not drink alcohol before or during the IVF procedure and, of course, during a subsequent pregnancy. Although some experts believe that small amounts may not do any harm, it is wiser to abstain altogether.

Drinking at least 2 liters of water each day is vital. Every bodily function depends on having sufficient fluid and as far as IVF is concerned, fluid levels must be maintained to ensure the proper health of the endometrium, the seminal fluid and that around the follicle.
