Want To Get Backlinks? Put In The Work, Not The Money
Backlinks are the life blood of your internet marketing campaign because they tell the search engines how popular your site is
. If you have backlinks from quality sites, the search engines will assume that you are also credible, and will reward you with a higher search engine ranking. So, if it is that important to get backlinks, should you just spend some money and buy a bunch of them?
Absolutely not!
If you are spending money to get backlinks, there is a good chance that you are hurting your sites reputation. Sure, there are plenty of services out there that will promise to sell you quality backlinks, but you should not fall for any of their guarantees.
When it comes to paid backlinks, the search engines have taken a very proactive stance against them. The search engines have created filters that can tell if you are paying for backlinks. If you are spending money on backlinks because you think it will manipulate your search engine ranking, you can be banned from the search engines altogether.
Google has come up with a way to see which sites are selling backlinks, and they have stopped thinking of those sites as trustworthy. If you buy their links and become associated with them, Google will stop thinking of your site as trustworthy, too.
Why are the search engines so upset over paid backlinks?
As far as the search engines are concerned, buying links to inflate your search engine ranking undermines the entire concept of page rank. Search engines rankings are designed to provide internet searchers with the most popular, most relevant, and most legitimate websites. However, if you can just buy a bunch of links, it does not mean that your site is actually popular, relevant, or legitimate. It just means that you have the budget to make it appear that your site belongs at the top of the rankings.
So what should you do?
Stick to getting backlinks the old-fashioned way through article marketing and posting on relevant forums and blogs. Sure, it may take more work and more time to get backlinks this way, but they are of a much higher quality than the ones that are being sold.
When it comes to backlinks, quantity is not nearly as important as quality. You can go out and buy 1,000 backlinks. However, your competitor, who got 50 backlinks the traditional way, will outrank you on the search engines, because they got quality backlinks and you didnt.
Are there any exceptions?
There are a few instances where buying backlinks is alright. For example, Google will not punish you for buying backlinks that are used solely for advertising, and not for page rank. However, you have to buy these links from sites that meet Googles rigorous standards. Additionally, the links you buy must be no-follow; if they are not, you are violating Googles guidelines.
Heres the bottom line get backlinks through hard work and legitimate SEO, and you wont have anything to worry about. Once you start taking shortcuts, you could be in some trouble.
