Visit Interlaken, Wengen & Grindlewald for Self Catering Holiday Accommodation in Switzerland by:Paul Johnston

During a visit to Interlaken in July 2003, it was suggested that Switzerland was

experiencing its hottest summer for 200 years, with daytime temperatures in and around 30 degrees much of the time.

Interlaken, is a glorious and peaceful town situated between 2 beautifully natural lakes, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, making it an ideal location to use as a touring base from which to explore the Bernese Oberland. It is a wonderful scenic alpine region and home to the mighty Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains.

Choose an apartment to rent in Interlaken or nearby Matten, where you can experience the daily pleasures of clean fresh mountain air, staying in local chalet-apartment style accommodation set close to the main areas of the town. There are fast running mountain streams and rivers all around Interlaken and the surrounding mountain villages, with plenty of scenic walks to enjoy. Boat rides are available on both Lake Thun, for travel to Spitz and on Lake Brienz if you wish to see the town of Brienz and beyond. There are direct trains to Lucerne, Basel and Zurich which are all manageable for a single days return trip, and represent a good day out as an alternative to Interlaken.

The easiest way of getting around the region is by train. Very clean, reliable, always on time, and to all routes. Yes, trains, going up mountains! They will take you to the Lauterbrunnen Valley, and on up to the pretty mountain village of Murren which is mostly on the level. From Murren, you can take a fabulous journey by cable car all the way up to the Schilthorn and the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant. Set majestically, at almost 3000 metres, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from 360 degrees that reach far across the alpine region. There is a magnificent range of snow-covered mountain peaks and you may get the feeling, that you could almost reach out and touch them. They are absolutely amazing and with unbelievable far reaching views on clear days.Visit Interlaken, Wengen & Grindlewald for Self Catering Holiday Accommodation in Switzerland by:Paul Johnston

Also, from either side of the Lauterbrunnen valley, you can visit both Grindlewald and Wengen where you can easily find a ski-chalet for rent. If you are travelling only with a small group looking for ski accommodation, why not try a ski-apartment for rent. Both Wengen and Gringlewald have numerous properties to rent and are undoubtedly two of the prettiest mountain villages in Switzerland in the summer time, but are primarily top class world renowned skiing resorts in winter. The views from these village settings, of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains are absolutely fantastic and you are likely to carry these sights with you for a very long time.

The next stage past Wengen, is to carry on up to Kleine Scheidegg which is the last but one station and time to change trains. From here you can board the very plush and luxurious new train for the journey right through the inside of the Jungfraujoch, which at over 11000 feet (almost 3500 metres), it is typically known as the 'Top of Europe'.Visit Interlaken, Wengen & Grindlewald for Self Catering Holiday Accommodation in Switzerland by:Paul Johnston

At the top, you are guaranteed to see snow and ice on a huge scale, even in summer. There is an observation area, an outdoor viewing platform and so many breathtaking views that you'll never forget it. You may even be lucky enough to see or join, husky-drawn sledges, if the weather is clear. All year round there are other daily attractions which are only accessible via this, the highest railway station in Europe.

Remember to set off early and don't forget your camera!
