. Ironically, most of the people miss out the unique structure during their tour to Iran. It is a monument of its own kind that lies between the central Europe and China. According to modern historians, the wall was constructed by the combined efforts of a strong and powerful army consisting of between 15,000 to 30,000 soldiers.

Popular Names

The structure is known across the world in different names in a number of languages. The wall was built as an ancient defensive facility to protect the Gorgan region located in the northeastern Iran. The history of the ancient monument can be traced back to a time which precedes the one later built in China by more than a thousand years. The monument is huge and in terms of size second only to the Great Wall of China. It contains a wall with a length of 195 kilometers and width of 6 to 10 meters. A number of fortresses were built across the entire length of the wall with each spaced at an interval of 10 to 50 kilometers from the previous one.

The structure was constructed using standardized bricks made from local soil fired in various kilns built for the same purpose. It starts from the Caspian coast and continues toward north east till it vanishes behind the Pishkamar Mountains. A visitor has various options to explore the huge ancient structure from different locations and angles when he decides to take a tour to Iran.
