Your child's smile is an important part of who they are
. People whose teeth are unsightly with discoloration, decay or breaks often struggle with their self esteem.In contrast, when your smile is bright and without defects, you feel more confident and self assured. In today's job market, confidence sells.
We are all our own worst critics and children are not immune from this. Children are especially susceptible to critique and take it very hard.
Children deeply desire fitting in, looking like everyone else. It's important to them to look 'normal,' which to them means they don't have something about them that draws unwanted attention to themselves.
This particularly true of unwanted attention from their peers. Children having ugly front teeth often become the object of teasing and ridicule by their peers.
A child's overall well-being can be negatively impacted by failure to care for the primary teeth, as this neglect can lead to severe infection and intense pain affecting the gums and jaws.
Most people don't realize that if they let cavities (or tooth decay) grow in the primary teeth, it can spread to the permanent teeth underneath and can also lead to abscessed gums.

Primary teeth may be referred to as temporary or baby teeth and are very important to a child's health and functioning.
A child usually does not get his first permanent tooth until five years old, while the major molars sometimes do not come in until the early teens.
For every permanent tooth that comes in, all the main teeth will hold a space just for them. If your child loses a baby tooth too soon, the other teeth could close the space and not allow enough room for the permanent tooth to grow out, or cause other orthodontic issues.
Don't think because your baby teeth aren't permanent that they have no importance. You need them to speak, to chew your food, for proper development of the jaw and for the aesthetics of your smile as well.
Serious dental decay among young children and infants is known as Early Childhood Caries, or ECC. As a rule, it impacts the upper front teeth and gradually ruins all the teeth in sequence.
Since saliva is prevalent in the area of the lower incisors, these teeth are typically spared from the effects of this condition.
ECC is first seen as a dull while band along the gum line, often undetected by parents.
If left unattended, this white band evolves into cavities that eat away at the bottom of the teeth where the gums are.
Oftentimes, parents express their concerns over the issue of teeth coming out dull and stained. If the damage goes untreated, the teeth will be entirely rotted, with only a black stump in its place.
The gums are also inflicted with boils or abscesses as well.
The cause is due to the frequent exposure of teeth to sugary liquids. Juices, breast milk and substitute formulas may be counted among those sugary foes.
The sugar in these liquids contain a bacteria known as mutatis streptococci, and when combined with food, decay will eventually result.
This bacteria is infectious and may be transferred not only from tooth to tooth but also from parent to child. There is research to support the importance of dental health in the mother.
If the mother's dental care is appropriate and proper, then her children benefit from this as well. She teaches those same habits and preventative strategies to her child, typically beginning in infancy.
If the oral hygiene is not taken seriously from an early age, the principle teeth will most likely experience permanent tooth loss.
One very important tool in the work of preventing tooth decay is the use of fluoride toothpaste.
Adults and kids that are more particularly apt to getting dental decay will get the most from using this toothpaste, as it aggressively reinforces tooth enamel through enhancing the capacity for repelling decay-inducing acid incidents.
Fluoride toothpaste cannot guarantee teeth that are free of decay by itself however. Your dental health professional will be able to properly instruct you in proper oral care.
