? Is the world of children's toys a black art to you? Well don't worry! In this article we'll take a quick look at the children's party and suggest some toys and ideas for them.
So, what exactly are party toys? Well party toys come in three main types; firstly there are small toys that you leave scattered around the party or give to children as they join the party. These will be toys that the children can play with during the actual event. Secondly there will be toys that are given as party prizes for the party games and thirdly, there are toys that you can give to the children at the end of the party as children's party bag fillers. We will look at each of these categories in turn and try and give some ideas.
Firstly there are the in-party toys. You can either give these to children in a bag or in a lucky dip as they join the party or leave them lying around the venue. These should be things such as party hats, or depending on the type of party, accessories ranging from fairy wands to pirate eye-patches. Depending on how well you deal with noise, you can also include things like whistles, kazoos or other noise making devices. If your party is going to be sports themed then these will often go down really well. For girl's parties jewellery such as bracelets and dress-up items will go down very well and again, the general theme of the party will often decide what is best. You probably don't want to be giving away fairy princess tiaras and plastic wings to the mostly boy attendees at a pirate and monster party. One thing to bear in mind is the ages of the guests; you don't want to be giving away small plastic things that can be choked on if there are very small children in attendance and although they can be very popular it is always best to be careful of bubble blowing liquid with smaller kids.
The children's toys you use for game prizes will tend to be slightly bigger and more impressive than the ones you gave away initially, this will make them think it was worth actually winning the game and encourage them to play more; which ultimately stops them from getting bored. Try and stick with the theme and also try and make the prizes appropriate for all ages and sexes attending the party since in theory you have no way of knowing who will win. It is also worth having something like a lucky dip with bags of assorted small toys and sweets to keep the kids who didn't win anything happy as well.
Finally, when the kids leave the party it is customary to give them a small gift bag. Fill this with sweets and age-appropriate small toys.
Most good children's toys web sites will have a good large selection of filler gifts, often organised by suggested-sex and price. Many are under 50p with even the more expensive ones maxing out at not much more expensive than that. Take a look on one for even more inspiration and good luck with the party!
