The easternmost district of Uttaranchal popularly called as 'Miniature Kashmir'

shares international boundary with China (Tibat) on the north and Nepal on the east. The northern parts are studded with majestic peaks like Nanda Devi (east), Nanda Devi (west), Trishul, Nandakat, Rajrambha, Panchachuli group etc. The alpine meadows and glaciers below these majestic mountains have made the district a virtual paradise for nature lovers.

About Pithoragarh:

Pithoragarh is very beautiful town and delightful place for adventure lovers, mountaineers, trekkers, botanists, pilgrims as well as sight viewers. It is an important night halt of famous Kailash Mansarovar Yatra rout. The famous rivers Kali, Gori, Saryoo originating from the Pithoragarh Mountains are perfect for water sports such as river rafting, kayaking, and fishing many more. Pithoragarh is very rich place for different variety of flora and fauna.

Fort at Pithoragarh: Pithoragarh fort was built by Gorkhas in 1987. It is situated at the top of the hill on the fringes of the town.

Kapileshwar Mahadev:

This cave temple is 3 kms far from the main town. It is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. One can view from there the soar valley and majestic Himalayan peaks.

Around Pithoragarh:

Chandak (8 kms):

Chandak hill of Pithoragarh affords a fine view of the Himalayas. Every year in winter heavy snow fall is being there.

Dhwaj Temple:

Dhwah temple is 14kms far from Pithoragarh. After 10 kms road head 4 kms one way trekking to reach that famous shrine. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It also very famous for a breath taking view of the snow capped peaks.

The Kedar (16 Kms.):

This famous pilgrim place is also known for its scenic luster. Every year on Shivratri there organized a fair.

How to Reach Pithoragarh:

By Air: The airport for Pithoragarh is at the Naini Saini 5 kms far from the main town.

By Rail: The nearest rail head is at Tanakpur and Kathgodam

By Road: Well connected by road with important towns of the region.
