The young Mohammed led a group of freedom fighters, who killed the Portuguese Governor, when the Portuguese had planned a mass execution of all the island inhabitants who refused to convert to Christianity. This young hero became the Sultan thereafter, and enjoyed 12 years of peace and prosperity as never before. His dynasty, the Utheemu Dynasty reigned for 127 years after him with 12 rulers.
His palace on the island of Utheem still stands today with much the same design though certain modifications have been made - as a proud testimony to this courageous young rulers fight for independence from colonial rulers.
