Useful Zimbabwe Travel Advice

The best way to give Zimbabwe travel advice is to take a look at the country's national parks and the wonders that can be found there. The oldest National Park in Zimbabwe is Matobo Park. It's an area of undisturbed natural beauty known for distinctive rock landforms and wooded valleys that is situated 35 kilometers from Bulawayo. For anyone who appreciates wildlife and nature, the park is an essential visit. It is inhabited by a large variety of game which includes antelope, leopard, giraffe, zebra, impala and the white rhino. In the sky above, the black eagle flies along with 175 other species of bird.To add to the park's appeal, rock paintings can be seen. Bushmen, who lived in the hills 2000 years ago, created these and they offer a contrasting attraction to the wildlife on display.Another of the country's National Parks is Mana Pools. This is an area made up of four pools formed from the Zambezi River. It's an area regularly visited by wildlife using the pool for drinking water. As one of Zimbabwe's least developed parks, the animals, such as hippopotamuses, elephants, crocodiles and buffalo can be seen in their most natural environment. The most famous part of the Zambezi River is the Victoria Falls. UNESCO have marked this a United Nation's Heritage site, which means that it is preserved for the international community. At the Victoria Falls an extreme experience can be found at the Devil's Pool. This is a shallow pool that is on the edge of the falls. It's possible to swim in the pool right up to the edge without fear of falling down the side. This is because of the natural rock wall below the pool which stops a swimmer's progress in spite of the current. The pool is considered dangerous by some, so is not for all.The Hwange National Park can be found on the road between Victoria Falls and Bulawayo. This is the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe and is an area where hyena, antelope and all species of the African wild dog can be seen. All of Africa's Big Five animals can be seen here although leopards and rhinos are not as commonly witnessed as lions, buffaloes and elephants. For birdwatchers, the park includes up to 400 species and for those who go after dark, it's possible to see the springhare which resembles a miniature kangaroo.Although it's not a game reserve, the Nyanga National Park is home to wildlife. Lions and buffaloes, which have strayed over the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, can often be seen as well as antelope, hyena and leopard. The Kaireri River is part of the park and here rainbow trout, brown trout and American brook trout can be found as well as the African clawless otter. For those who like to walk when sight seeing, there is Mount Nyangani. This is in the centre of the Nyanga National Park and is the highest mountain in Zimbabwe. It is possible to reach the peak within 3 hours but caution must be observed as there are unmarked road and visitors are warned that the weather can rapidly change on the mountain
