U2 Australian Tour 2010
Having already performed its Europe and North America segments throughout 2009
, the tour is scheduled to arrive in Melbournes Etihad Stadium December 1st through December 3rd. The band will resume performing in Brisbanes Suncorp Stadium on December 8th. U2 will then make its way towards Sydneys ANZ Stadium for a brief stop December 13th and 14th.The tours Australia segment will conclude in Perths Subiaco Oval December 18th and 19th. The Perth show will be the bands first performance there since their 1998 Popmart tour.
Adelaide fans will be disappointed to discover no plans have been made for a stop in their city.
The 360 Tour will be presented by a collaboration between concert promotion company Live Nation and Michael Copper. The tour is named after the 360-degree show setup whereby the 150 foot tall steel staging is setup to provide the audience an unobstructed view of the band from every angle.
The stage will feature a cylindrical video system composed of interlocking LED panels, rotating bridges, and other innovative stage technology.
U2 claims this type of setup is the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure. The stage also features an enormous four-legged supporting rig, appropriately nicknamed The Claw.
This stage configuration has set a world record for being the largest stage structure ever to be used in a concert. U2 has often been known to perform at its best in front of a live audience and will certainly take advantage of this unique stage configuration.
U2s lead singer, Bono, has promised Australia an extra-special performance, having been quoted saying, "There's a whole set of songs we have for Australia, which will probably be played for the first time. So that's going to make it extra special for us.
It has been said that Jay-Z, often known as the godfather of modern-day hip-hop, will be supporting U2 as their opening act throughout both the Australia and New Zealand segments of the tour. It has been rumoured that choosing Jay-Z as their new supporting act was done to outdo themselves on their previous supporting act, namely Kanye West.
Tickets will become available at 9AM September 3rd, with prices starting as low as $39.90 (AUS). General admission tickets will start at $99.90 (AUS).
These prices are considered unusually low for a band of U2s status. The low ticket prices, however, have been partly attributed to the extra capacity the U2 360 stadium setup provides.
