Tuberculosis in Young Children

Share: Children and adults emigrating from the U.S
Children and adults emigrating from the U.S. to high risk countries or those who travel to these countries regularly might consider inquiring about the Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine. High-risk countries include Mexico, India, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Romania, Russia, and many countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Additionally, children adopted from any of these countries should be tested for TB infection. A positive skin test (PDD) can be produced within 2 to 12 weeks of suspected exposure. A physician may require an additional test in 3 months for these children even with a normal PDD test.
