Blocked Sites - Blocking Content From Your Child's Grasp

The internet is a wonderful thing, but some websites are designed to attack your computer and pollute it with adware, spyware and viruses

. While this is not so much a specification, it is something that must be set by a computer or network administrator. Web sites may also be blocked by an employer because it is deemed as inappropriate viewing from a business computer. For example, many employers choose to cut their employees off of gaming websites via the network because they are slacking off on the job.

One of the most, if not the most, commonly blocked type of media on the internet is pornography. Schools, parents, and employers alike usually block this. There is software available that allows you to choose which sites to block and which to allow. You can set it so that sites have to provide a certain amount of security related information to be useable.

Usually a site becomes blocked because information received for an administrator of the software security suite has issued the direction. To unblock a site the same administrator or someone with the same credentials can direct the software to allow the site. A lot of parents will set the software to block sites that have adult content under the child's user account, and may have different setting for the adult users of the computer.

On the internet explorer web browser tool bar under options there is an internet options tab. This tab contains the security settings and an option to control which sites will be blocked. Blocked sites can be viewed under this tab as well. Viewing blocked sites under these options will help the administrator to also view what users have attempted to access.

The people that probably use site blockers the most are schools and parents. There are some sites that children shouldn't see until they reach an age or level of maturity to where you know they can handle the content. For this reason, many parents block pornographic websites, violent websites, and other websites of adult nature on their children's computers. Schools do this, as well, but in addition to that, many block game websites so that students do not waste school district bandwidth on game playing.
