Major tourist attractions in the city include old monuments like Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Purana Qila and Jama Masjid.Red Fort, constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan using red sandstone, is an important heritage site in Delhi, capital of India. Humayun's Tomb, Lotus Temple, ISKCON Temple, Jantar Mantar, National Museum, International Dolls Museum, National Zoological Park, National Railway Museum, Teen Murti Bhavan, Lodhi Garden and Safdarjung's Tomb also attract travellers.
The distance from Delhi to Mumbai is about 1450 km. Mumbai city is actually a combination of seven islands that was reclaimed slowly. The Portuguese, after the occupation of the place, named it 'Bom Baia' which in Portuguese language meant 'good bay'. Another version is that the original inhabitants of the islands were fisher folks called Kolis. They worshiped a Hindu deity called Mumbadevi.
The first train in India ran between Bombay Victoria Terminus and Thane in 1853. Mumbai houses several heritage sites, particularly the Gateway of India, which interest the tourists. Mumbai is connected from Delhi by air, rail and road. But since the distance from Delhi to Mumbai is more than 1450 km, travellers usually did not venture to travel by road. There are regular flights from Delhi to Mumbai. The travel by air takes little less than two hours.
There are several trains running on this route. The average time taken to travel from Delhi to Mumbai is 20 hours to 28 hours. Among the daily trains are Firozepur-Mumbai Punjab Mail (No.12138), Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express (No.12618), Amritsar-Lokmanya Tilak Express (No.11058), Amritsar-Mumbai Golden Temple Express (N.12904), Firozepur-Mumbai Janata Express (No.19024), and two Rajdhani Express trains (Nos. 12952 and 12954). Duronto and Garib Rath expresses are running twice a week.
Taxi cabs charge a fare of Rs. 13 to Rs. 30 per kilometre for travelling from Delhi to Mumbai.
