Tours to East Africa

Renowned as the cradle of mankind, East Africa has always ranked among Africa's top tourist destinations

. East Africa is made up of five countries including, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. These boast of rich and varied tourist attractions.

From the white sand beach at the Coast to the big five animals, cultural displays, the snow-capped peaks of Mt Rwenzori, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya, mountain gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda and magnificent waterfalls on the mighty river Nile. Even for lovers of dark tourism, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre in Kigali now offers an opportunity for those who want to recall the events of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, Africa's worst genocide in modern times.

Despite the richness of the region in tourism resources the region does not top the list in Africa as a tour destination, save for Kenya and Tanzania which rank ninth and tenth on the African content their counterparts Mauritius, Tunisia, South Africa and Egypt have a consistently remained at the top

In an endeavour to find a solution, East African countries have agreed on a plan to jointly market the region as a single tourist destination. The move aims at maximising the benefits of tourism and wildlife in the region as stipulated in the treaty for the establishment of the East African Community.

The negotiations on a common market protocol are at an advanced stage and upon completion, and when concluded the region will have a common tourist visa, a common code of conduct for private and public tour and travel operators, and harmonise the professional standards of agents in the tourism and travel industry within the community.

The plan is intended to market East Africa as a single tourist destination and its believed will help to counter the immense global competition in the tourism industry.

It is also believed that a common visa will increase the number of tourists to the region. The visa will allow a foreign tourist to tour attractions in two or more East African countries under one visa since it will eliminate the cost that currently, a foreigner has to incur when applying for a visa at every entry point and this has financial constraints on tourists.
