Also helicopter safaris are available which can be used and you can decide to fly from Wilson Airport to Mt Kenya have breakfast and to Samburu have lunch and finally to your destination lets say Kitich and these services are wonderful as you alight and board at the doorstep without worrying about have to drive and with the potholes. Mara Buffalo is exclusively used by Africa Safari Club Lodges flights only and maybe incase of an emergency that is when an aircraft can land there otherwise not. For those tourists flying to the Masai Mara have to be aware they can do more than 4 takeoffs and landing before finally arriving at destination.So it is recommended when flying to the Masai Mara on a scheduled flight don't just alight from the aircraft listen to the crew announcement and even ask where you are as you might end up alighting at the wrong destination and before you are picked it takes hours as you have to wait for a vehicle to pick you up. The scheduled flights operate twice daily morning and afternoon thus forcing you to wait the hotel for the transfer in the afternoon if where you are is far as sometimes the bridges is Masai Mara are washed away y heavy rains .In this regard then the private charter is more convenient as it drops you at the airstrip that serves the lodge you are going to. The following airstrips needs caution when flying in and the payload has to be reduced especially on the 12 seater caravan to 6 passengers for both inbound and outbound flights and not safe for the 18 seater for Mara Shikar and Siana Springs airstrips. The flight time from Wilson to Masai Mara is 45 minutes on charter flights but on scheduled about 1 hour and 15 minutes due to hobs. During Mid June to October is the immigration for animals in Masai Mara and the lodges are always fully booked as reservations are done as early as in March. When flying from Wilson Airport immediately after take off you will have the scenic of Lake Magadi and The Great Rift Valley and the Loita hills as you proceed to Masai mara.While in the Masai Mara you will game the big five and there are 2game drives in a day one very early in the morning and the other one in the afternoon. The are animals like Giraffee,Lion,Elephant,Hippo,Crocodile,Rhino and many others and you can do a scenic and aerial survey of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Kenya Side. In Tsavo National Park we have lodges like Kilanguni Serena, Kilalinda, Fitch Hattons, Kambi ya Kanzi, Severin Safari Lodge and many others with Kilanguni airstrip which can accommodate and the B200 superkingair 10 seater with a pressurized cabin, 20 minutes flight time one way.Samburu and Shaba are situated in Eastern Province and its indigenous are the Samburu people who are sub-tribe of the masai.when flying to or from Samburu you use Samburu Buffalo springs airstrip and there is a restriction on the 19 seater aircraft the payload outbound as to be reduced to 16 pax but inbound 18 passengers and Shaba airstrip is strictly for 5 seater single engine and it also serves Joys Camp.At Meru National Park there decent lodges and camps and the airstrip serviceable is Mugwangho another name Elsas Kopje there are also scheduled flights once daily via Nanyuki.Many Tourists go to Mount Kenya Safari Club, Tree Tops and the airstrip used is Nanyuki Civil and it can accommodate upto 18 seater aircraft it is in central province 30 minutes flight one-way from Nairobi, Wilson Airport.
