Top Tips For Buying Laminate Flooring

These days many people opt to put laminate flooring down rather than carpet or vinyl as it is warm underfoot, and very easy to keep clean

. It is also relatively cheap to buy and install (You can even do it yourself, even with limited Do It Yourself (DIY) skills and a few basic tools).

However before you rush into the nearest DIY store to buy some, here are some useful tips to help you make the right purchasing decision.

1.)Firstly do some research online before choosing a particular brand, as the quality can differ greatly, whilst the laminating process may not vary greatly between brands, the ease of which the boards can be fitted can vary and you should take this into consideration. Also make sure that you buy click lock flooring that fastens together and can be fitted without the need to glue the boards and tap them together.

2.)Be careful when choosing a colour, as unlike with carpet or vinyl you are unlikely to be able to take a sample home to see how it looks compared to your furnishing. Darker wood effects look very high class, and show less dirt and wear, but can make a room seem smaller. Lighter colours in general fit in with a wider range of furnishings.

3.)Always ensure that you put insulated underlay boards down before fitting laminate flooring. They will deaden noise, as well as providing thermal insulation. They will also help level out imperfections in any type of floor.

4.)Always ensure that you buy enough laminate flooring to complete the job and have enough left over to keep a couple of boards as spares. Never ever just buy enough for the job, as major retailers have a habit of changing their suppliers suddenly. This can mean that if you are short of flooring that when you go back they may not have anymore of the same flooring available, resulting in you being unable to finish the floor. Also you will always end up using more boards than you think. The spare boards are ideal for fixing any damaged ones in the future.

5.)Get a cost for someone to fix the laminate flooring down, and get them to do it if you are not confident, but you can easily fit it yourself in a day or less for one room, so bear this in mind when getting a quote.

Follow these tips and you should have a great looking laminate floor down in no time.
