Top Baby Photography Tips For Every Parent

As a father, taking photos of your Children can be the most worthwhile pictures to take

, on the other hand, they can also be the most frustrating.

Crying, screaming, sleeping and eating is what babies do extraordinarily well. Posing for your digital camera is the last thing that is on your child's mind. Once you capture that ideal moment frozen on a shot, you will recognize that all your hard effort was worth it as you will have amazing photos to share once they have all grown up.

There is no doubt that photographing a infant is not easy. When they are first born, they will not move around a lot and will sleep most of the time (except for late at night - when they cry all the time). In this situation, it's best to get up near and use a big aperture (f/1.8 ideally). This ensures that the focus of the shot is on your infant. Try to also take the photograph from an fascinating angle and it will make your image more out of the ordinary.

One of the most crucial factors in photographing babies is patience and the way you apply child psychology when relating to your baby. Babies over six months may be shy at the start and may take time to warm up. This is where child psychology comes in - you must try to play with your baby, or even turn into a child yourself while taking the photograph. Have fun together with your baby while you are taking photos, make comical faces and funny sounds. Don't be too solemn.

When they are seven months, they start to get a little more challenging to photograph. They will want to move around a lot and remaining in the same position to pose for you is impractical. Take candid photos and try to have as many distractions around them as possible so that they don't get bored. Focusing on their toy for instance is even more interesting than looking at your big digital camera lens.

When they start to crawl and walk it will be substantially challenging to take a picture of them as their unexpected actions will cause a lot of shots to be blurred. You have to be prepared for this. I suggest increasing your ISO to around ISO800 and setting your camera to burst shooting mode. This will make sure that you will have numerous shots and you can then choose your favorite shot after that special moment.

An additional great tool that I have used in taking photos of toddlers is the flash. Ideally an adjustable bounce flash will assist to diffuse the light and not only create a soft "daylight" feel to your pictures, but also help to control the amount of motion blur that is captured due to your child's rapid movements.

Watch out for the fingers - fingers in the mouth can be cute but on most times they will block out your baby's face.

Using these tips have helped me capture many precious moments in my baby's life and I have many fantastic shots to keep for many years to come.
