Everybody has no doubt heard of mother's day and father's day
, however the lesser known grandparent's day often goes uncelebrated.
We have just created our first grandparents gift this year, commissioned by a charming lady called Amy who wanted a piece of engraved jewellery for her grandmother. Amy had visited our shop looking for a silver necklace that she would be able to have engraved. We showed Amy all of our latest creations from tag charm silver necklaces to open disk silver necklaces and she finally decided on a large heart pendent.
Amy had spent allot of time thinking about the message that she wanted to use on her engraved jewellery and as the official flower of grandparents day is the Forget Me Not, she decided to have forget me not' engraved on a delicate silver necklace.
National grandparent's day is celebrated in many countries but in particular America and the UK. America celebrate grandparents day on the first Sunday after Labour Day and the UK mark the occasion on the first Sunday of October.
Grandparent's day was established first in America when West Virginian resident, Marian McQuade made it her mission to educate young communities about the important contributions that their seniors had made throughout history. It was Marian's aim for the younger generation to show their gratitude, care and love for elder family members and all that they have done for them. Not only is grandparents day a day for remembering the past it is also a day for educating about the future and helping the younger generation to understand the support and guidance that can be obtained from grandparents.
In America they also have a tradition of adopt a grandparent'; this means that for those people who no longer have grandparents and senior people with no grandchildren can enjoy each other's company.
We think grandparent's day is a great tradition and are glad to see the next generation embracing it.
